Last night, we reported that Ohio native Macie McNichols had verbally committed to Ohio State.
Tonight, we have two more names to report.
The first is Cheyenne Meek, who is actually MicNichols’ teammate at Swim Strongsville just outside of Ohio. She is primarily a sprint freestyler (she has a summer Junior Nationals cut in long course) who has yards bests of 23.66 in the 50 and 51.70 in the 100, both done at the Ohio State Championship meet as a junior. She placed 4th and 5th, respectively, in those races for Port Clinton High School. She was also quite a bit faster (23.3 and 23.0) in a pair of 50 yard freestyles in relay swims.
She and McNichols, long-time teammates and sprint group training partners, could be a foundation for future Ohio State relays.
Amanda McNulty comes from a little further away at Y-Spartaquatics in South Carolina. When she was younger, she looked like she might develop into a 100-200 freestyler, but as she matured, her true skill set, the butterfly races, really began to light up.
In yards, she’s been 54.7 and 2:01.0 in the 100 and 200 flys, and is tough enough to go a 4:21.62 in the 400 IM as well.
After the graduations of two-time Big Ten Champion in the 200 Shannon Draves, as well as 54-low 100 flyer Kelsey Moran, the Buckeyes looked notably thinner in that race coming into the 2013-2014 season than they ended the one before.
