Ohio State continued its in-state competition schedule, downing DIII powerhouse Denison a week after rolling past Akron and Kenyon. The Buckeyes won every event on Friday night, racking up a large number of multiple event winners. One such swimmer was Ohio State’s Cameron Craig, who took the men’s 50 free and 200 IM. In the 50, Craig roared to a new season best of 19.89, touching the wall first by nearly half a second. That time for Craig ranks him 10th in the NCAA so far this season, and 2nd in the Big Ten. Craig also won the 200 IM in 1:50.99.
Jason Mathews continued to be the Buckeyes’ top men’s breaststroker this season, sweeping the breast events again. Mathews touched the wall in 54.53 in the 100 breast, finishing just .09 seconds off his season best. Mathews then clocked a big season best in the 200 breast, roaring to a 1:58.66. The time marked a top performance for the season by nearly a second. Mathews also posted a field-leading 24.56 on the breast leg of Ohio State’s B medley relay squad.
Buckeye freshman Thomas Watkins swam a season best to win the men’s 100 back. Watkins clocked a 48.90 in the 100 back, marking his top performance this year. He then won the 200 back by 2 seconds with a 1:47.81, coming in off his season best of 1:46.88, which leads Ohio State this year. OSU sophomore Semuede Andreis led off the men’s A 200 free relay in a season best 20.03. That time comes in just .06 seconds off the sophomore’s lifetime best of 19.97, which he swam last November.
Hanna Gresser of Ohio State won the women’s 100 breast and 200 IM. Gresser, primarily a breaststroker, started her meet out with a 58.26 in the 100 backstroke, which was the 4th fastest time in the field. Gresser then turned around and swam the 100 breast, with only the men’s 100 back in between, touching first in 1:03.58. Later in the meet, Gresser posted a season best of 2:04.29 to win the 200 IM.
Molly Kowal swam a season best of 9:56.46 to win the women’s 1000 free. She is currently 2nd on Ohio State’s rankings this year, as Kathrin Demler holds the top spot with a 9:53.07. Demler swam a difficult double at the meet, first taking the women’s 200 back with a 2:00.08, marking her best swim of the season. She then swam the 200 breast, with only the men’s 200 back to rest, where she clocked a 2:21.93, swimming exhibition (not for points).

The Buckeye women dominated the competition by taking the top spot in every event of the night. Hanna Gresser won two events (100 Breaststroke; 200 IM). Ohio State relays also claimed the top three spots in the 200 Medley Relay and took the top spot in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
In diving, the Buckeye women claimed the top three spots in the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. Genevieve Angerame took first place in three-meter diving with a score of 318.15. Mackenzie Crawford won the one-meter diving event with a score of 291.75.
On the men’s side, several Buckeyes placed top three in events twice including Matthew Magness (1000 Freestyle; 500 Freestyle), Paul Delakis (200 Freestyle; 100 Freestyle), Lain Weaver (200 Freestyle; 100 Freestyle), Thomas Watkins (100 Backstroke; 200 Backstroke), Noah Lense (200 Butterfly; 100 Butterfly), Craig Cameron (50 Freestyle; 200 IM), and Semuede Andreis (50 Freestyle; 100 Freestyle).
In diving, the men took the top three spots in both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. Joseph Canova and Jacob Fielding placed in both events, with Canova taking second in three-meter (399.68) and first in one-meter (370.65) while Fielding took third in both events (three-meter, 384.45; one-meter, 338.55).

Ohio State continues its home stand to host the Ohio State Invitational Thursday, Nov. 21-Saturday, Nov. 23 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Preliminaries each day will begin at 10 a.m. while finals will commence at 5 p.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 2 Denison men’s swimming and diving team suffered a 215-78 loss at Division I Ohio State on Friday night.
Senior Bebe Wang posted three top-5 finishes to pace the Big Red. Wang registered the third and fourth-fastest times in the 200 back (1:51.17) and 200 IM (1:55.09), respectively. The versatile senior also finished fifth in the 100 back with a time of 52.41.
Junior Drake Horton had success both individually and in relay events. The foursome of Horton, Kymani Senior, PJ Desmet and Liam Picozzi combined for the third-fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.53). Horton, Desmet and Senior also teamed up with Richie Kurlich to place fifth in the 200 medley relay with a time final time of 1:34.54.
Horton also excelled in the freestyle events, finishing fourth in the 100 (46.87) and sixth in the 200 (1:43.75). Kurlich logged the fourth-best time in the 200 breaststroke with a ‘B’ cut time of 2:04.56, while also placing fifth in the 100 breast (57.74). Senior was fourth in the 50 free after touching in at 21.56.
Dayen Wilson and Noah Houskeeper both registered top-five times. Wilson had the fourth and fifth-best times in the 1000 (9:43.29) and 500 freestlye (4:44.16) events, respectively, while Houskeeper took fourth in the 200 fly (1:51.65) and had the fifth-fastest time in the 100 fly at 50.80.
Liam Simmons finished sixth on both boards, scoring 245.18 on the one-meter and 228.23 on the three-meter.
Denison returns to action in three weeks when they host the Denison Invitational (Dec. 4-7) at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The second-ranked Big Red women’s swimming and diving team dropped a 214.5-80.5 decision to The Ohio State University on Friday night at the McCorckle Aquatic Pavilion.
Junior Maddie Hopkins posted Denison’s top performance with a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly. Hopkins’ time of 57.36 was eight hundredths of a second faster than OSU senior Rebekah Bradley. The junior was also fifth in the 50 free (24.38), part of the 200 free relay that logged the third-best time of the night and one-fourth of the fifth-place 200 medley relay squad.
Gabriella Nutter, who was also part of both relay teams, took third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.32. In addition to swimming on the fifth-place 200 medley team, senior Kate Mesaros also recorded the fifth-fastest times in both the 100 (1:05.90) and 200 (2:24.60) breaststroke events. Fellow seniors Casey Kirby and Michaela Morrison made up the other half of the 200 relay team that registered the third-best time of the evening. Kirby was also on the 200 medley relay team and had the fifth-best performance in the 200 back at 2:09.33.
Naomi Clayton led the Big Red on the boards, placing fourth in the one-meter event with a total score of 245.18 and fifth on the three-meter board (228.23).
Denison will return to the pool in three weeks when they host the Denison Invitational (Dec. 4-7) at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
