Ohio State senior Alex Norris has been named the conference’s Swimmer of the Week for January 21st, marking the first time since November of 2011 (Megan Detro) that an Ohio State women’s swimmer has won this award.
Swimming at the Kenyon Winter Invite, Norris broke Pool Records in the 200 free (1:48.33), 500 free (4:48.51), and 400 IM (4:21.77) as Ohio State won that mini-invite against a mixture of Division I and Division III opponents. The last winner from The Ohio Sate University was Megan Detro back in November of 2011.
Joining Norris on this week’s awards list from the conference is Indiana freshman Gia Dalesandro, who is making a strong case for Big Ten Freshman of the Year as well. She’s won this award three times so far this season.
In a quad against Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri, she won the 200 IM in 2:03.80, and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay in 1:41.22. She was also 2nd in the 100 fly in 54.79, behind only national-title contender Dani Barbiea of Missouri.
Iowa, also from that meet, took diver of the meet, placing 2nd on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards against Illinois, Indiana and Missouri (both events were won by Missouri, the lone team at that meet that is not a member of the Big Ten).
