Ohio Women Wrap Home Schedule With Wins Over Bowling Green, Cleveland State

ATHENS, Ohio— The Ohio swimming and diving team wrapped up their home schedule with wins over Bowling Green, 182-117, and Cleveland State, 242- 48.

“It was great to send our seniors out with a win in their last meet at the OUAC. The entire team came together to compete and have some fun racing before championship season,” said head coach Mason Norman. “The crowd was amazing in the aquatic center and that just makes our team perform so well.”

The Bobcats started out strong with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:46.00 from senior Athena Aravanatinou (North Bethesda, Md.), freshman Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.), sophomore Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and junior Emma Fortman (Maderia, Ohio).

Strine led the team with two first place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.98) and tied for first place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.49). Brust added two wins of her own in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.70) and the 100-yard butterfly (55.39).

The Bobcats added several other first places finishes from sophomore Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) in the 50-yard freestyle (23.87), junior McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) in the 100-yard freestyle (51.34) and Fortman in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.05).

In the 400-yard individual medley, the Bobcats took the top three spots with close finishes from junior Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ar.), sophomore Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) and freshman Gabby McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.). Marks took the top spot with a time of 4:33.29, followed closely by Croaning with a time of 4:34.11 and freshman Gabby McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) placed third with a time of 4:34.65.

The Bobcats ended the meet with a top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay from the quartet of Grau, Dunigan, Fortman and sophomore Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio)
In diving, junior Halli Siwik (Fishers, Ind.) placed second in the 3-meter dive (272.50) and the 1-meter dive (253.65).

The dive team has one final tune up before the Mid-American Conference Championship against Miami on February 12 in Oxford. The rest of the team will be back in the pool February 23-26 at the Mid-American Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Ohio.

ATHENS, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swim and dive team voyaged to Athens, Ohio for a victory against the Vikings of Cleveland State and a defeat to the home Ohio Bobcats. Bowling Green defeated Cleveland State 239-52 and fell to Ohio 117-182.

Daisy Platts notched two more wins in both the 100 and 200 Backstroke event for the second straight day. Teammates Taylor Harris and Kellie House swam into a first place finish in the 200 Breaststroke and the 1000 Freestyle.

Divers Zoe Smith and Grace Ellis put on another powerful performance with Ellis taking the top spot on the podium in the 3-Meter event and Smith taking the third spot. In the 1-Meter Smith delivered another diving win for BG.

The Bobcats topped .500 winning percentage for the first time on the season with wins against both the Falcons and Vikings. The Vikings fell to both the Falcons and Bobcats during their 11th meet of the season.

ATHENS, Ohio– In their final tune-up before the Horizon League Championships, the Cleveland State women lost to Ohio, 242-48, and Bowling Green, 239-53. The Green and White recorded two dual victories during the regular season.

Head Coach Hannah Burandt said, “Our women’s team culture shined on the road today. The opportunity presented by OU and BG put our ladies to the test and they aced it with their energy, confidence, and connection with one another. Taper time is officially here and I cant wait to see everything come together at the Horizon League Championships.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Caroline Hughes placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.55.
  • The Vikings were fifth-through-seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke with Grace Butcher (1:10.76), Hayley Rupp (1:11.07), and Jordan Stump (1:11.37).
  • Kellsie Krisch clocked a 2:24.60 to come in fourth place during the 200-yard breaststroke.
  • In the 100-yard butterfly, Hughes came in fifth after registering a time of 1:00.09.
