The 2025 Bergen Swim Festival is on the horizon, with action kicking off Friday, April 4th from the country of Norway.
Along with the expected entries from nations such as the Netherlands, Sweden and Hungary, a notable Australian ace is lurking among the field.
26-year-old multi-Olympic medalist Kyle Chalmers is expected to race this weekend, entered in the men’s 50m free and 100m free.
As a link to the competition, Chalmers is engaged to Norwegian swimmer Ingeborg Løyning and the pair recently revealed they are expecting their first child together.
Chalmers last raced at the 2025 South Australian State Open Championships in January of this year. Once again representing Marion, Chalmers posted a time of 22.01 in the 50m free, a result just .03 outside his lifetime best of 21.98 from last year.
Kenzo Simons and Nyls Korstanje of the Netherlands as well as Dylan Carter of Trinidad & Tobago will be among the top contenders in Chalmers’ races.
On the women’s side, Tessa Giele of the Netherlands will put her sprinting prowess on display while Sara Junevik of Sweden will be in her crosshairs.

He lost my respect by refusing to shake hand of chi ese swimmer, hope he gets beaten again by same guy
He didn’t refuse. Try stating facts.
Lani under Dean ! She gonna be on fire on the race
Lani under Dean is gonna be on fire 🔥
Crazy that Chalmers is still 26 yo, which is not old at all for a male sprinter, it feels like he’s been competing for decades.
We’re gonna need him to compete for another decade with how he carries our relays.
Isn’t Erik Persson from Sweden not Norway
That’s right – fixed.
My brain completed the sentence as “Kyle Chalmers headed to Cal” before I could finish reading it.
Unfortunately he’s not old enough yet
Yeah he’s still 26!
I guess this meet will have no stream?
In other news the Aussie Nationals entries are out and there’s a few big names missing:
Chalmers (in Norway)
Anderson (in Scotland still?)
Short
Neill
Temple
And Lani Pallister is entered as St Peters Western !!
ceccon, clareburt and fairweather are also there. mcevoy is swimming his first comp since december, dekkers is entered but not in the 200 fly, isaac cooper is allegedly returning
Are we about to get Lani 2.0 under Dean? Makes sense to join. But poor Janelle, that conversation must have been interesting?
the parent-child relationship adds an extra layer to the coaching dynamic. It could be completely amicable
with Lani simply wanting a coach without that complication, just like how mckeon eventually moved away from her dad’s program
Janelle would’ve already known that Lani has been looking at programs overseas since at least last year so it would’ve been no surprise to her.
