NAC Logo MastersNashville, Tenn., October 2015, Ashley Ann Whitney has been named lead coordinator for Nashville Aquatic Club’s (NAC) growing Masters swimming program. Whitney swam on the gold medal winning relay-team in the 1996 Olympics, qualified for three Olympic swimming trials, and clinched a spot on the 2009 US National Open Water team.

As a youngster, Whitney began her swimming career at NAC and she’s glad to back. “I’m excited to bring my swimming and coaching experience back where I began my competitive career,” Whitney says. “ While still a competitor, I enjoy helping adult athletes achieve their goals.”

Whitney shares the deck with long-time NAC head coach John Morse who is celebrating his 30th year, associate head coach Doug Wharam, and several other successful swim coaches. “Ashley brings a unique and established perspective to our adult swimming and triathlete program,” Wharam said. “Since she’s competed in the Olympics, triathlons and national open water swimming events, she really has something to teach adults.” Adding even more depth to NAC’s adult swimming program are: World Master’s Champion Jeff Ockerman, Nashville Triathlete champion and former competitive swimmer Tony White, age group and collegiate swimmer Melissa Cooper, Triathlete coach and musician Thad Beaty, and open water specialist Allison Ware.

Masters swimming gives swimmers of any level a chance to learn, train, compete, and have fun while improving their skills in the water. NAC is a year round competitive swim program that has been operating in the Middle Tennessee area since 1975. Nashville Aquatic Club aims to develop the character, skills, and desire necessary for each child to maximize his or her potential. Through swimming, the goal is to develop physical fitness, self-discipline, and self-esteem, which will assist children in maximizing their personal, intellectual, and athletic potential.
