Day 3 of the 2024 French Elite Championships, the meet representing the nation’s Olympic Trials, unfolded today, adding additional names to the Games’ roster.
One of them was Maxime Grousset, with the 25-year-old ripping a monster effort of 47.33 to take the men’s 100m free event. That checked in as a new lifetime best, usurping the 47.42 from last year.
But the 2023 World Championships medalist wasn’t alone in qualification territory, as teammate Rafael Fente Damers also dipped under the World Aquatics Olympic Qualification Time of 48.34 with a silver medal-worthy 48.14.
For Damers, that result crushed his previous lifetime best of 48.86 established just this past February.
Marie Wattel matched the Olympic Qualification Time exactly en route to winning the women’s 100m freestyle.
27-year-old Wattel stopped the clock at 53.61, beating last night’s 100m backstroke winner Beryl Gastaldello by .10. Gastaldello will most likely be among those named to the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay with her result of 53.71 this evening.
Anastasia Kirpichnikova sealed her spot on the Paris roster in the women’s 1500m free, turning in a time of 15:59.95 as the top finisher. She routed the field, with the next-closest competitor represented by Lisa Pou who touched well over 30 seconds behind in 16:41.26.
