Colin Bone, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, gave his verbal commitment to Auburn University on Sunday, September 20. Bone, a member of the Catholic High School and Crawfish Aquatics swim teams, is a 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100m freestyle, and the reigning Louisiana high school composite state record-holder in the 100/200 freestyles. He also holds the LHSAA Division I records in the 100/200/500 freestyles.
“Being able to swim for Auburn has been on my mind for years, so it is awesome that it is becoming a reality for me. With its outstanding swimming program and excellent academics, Auburn is the best fit and the best place for me to reach both my swimming and career goals. The incredible coaches and amicable team also really welcomed me so I am excited to join the Auburn family. War Eagle!”
Bone is looking forward to his senior year of Louisiana high school swimming and the opportunity to help Catholic win its third straight high school championship, a feat which has never been achieved in the school’s history. A five-time NISCA All-American and two-time member of USA Swimming’s Scholastic All-America Team, Bone has achieved the following times over the past year:
SCY | LCM | |
50 free | 20.91 | 23.52 |
100 free | 44.86 | 50.43 |
200 free | 1:37.99 | 1:53.17 |
500/400 free | 4:27.56 | 3:59.34 |
100 fly | 49.36 | 56.55 |
200 fly | 1:52.53 | 2:04.93 |
It took a 20.25 and 44.30 to score in the 50 and 100 freestyle events at 2015 SEC Championships, but Bone took 1.5 seconds off his 100m free in long course season, 3.3off his 200m, and 9.5 off his 400m. In short course season, he improved by .8 in the 50y, .3 in the 100y, .5 in the 200y and 7.4 in the 500y free. Bone has had similar progression in the butterfly. The Tigers’ storied sprint program is an ideal place for Bone to continue to develop his talent.
