Olympic Trials Qualifier Laura Goettler Verbally Commits to Duquesne University

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Laura Goettler has committed to swim at Duquesne University beginning in the 2020-2021 season.

Laura Goettler of Butler, PA has announced her decision to remain in-state to swim at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh beginning in the fall of 2020.

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to Duquesne University, to further my athletic and academic career. I would like to thank all my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me along the way! #GoDukes”

In July of 2018, Goettler competed in the 200 IM and the 100 and 200 breaststroke at Summer Nationals. She made it back in the C-final in both breaststroke events, swimming personal best times in each. Her 200m breast time (2:29.38) qualified her for Olympic Trials, which are set to take place in Omaha, Nebraksa in June of 2020.

Additionally, the Golden Tornado Swim Team member took home the gold medal this summer in the 200m breast at the Sectionals meet in Cleveland, OH. Goettler took home the silver medal in the 200m breast and a 7th place finish in the 100m breast only a year earlier during the same series in Spire.

Goettler, a senior at Butler Area Senior High School, earned a gold and a silver medal in the WPIAL AAA Championships in February. Goettler opened the meet swimming the breaststroke leg (27.84) of her team’s 200 medley relay. Soon after, she was back on the blocks for the 200 IM (2:11.62). Goettler charged to the wall 1.6 seconds ahead of Fox Chapel’s Zoe Skirboll, securing a first-place finish. She followed that up with a silver medal and a personal best in the 100 breast, this time touching a half second behind Skirboll. Goettler ended her meet by leading off her team’s 400 free relay in a time of 53.10.

Goettler’s lifetime bests in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM are all faster than the Duquesne school records already.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 24.77
  • 100 free – 52.93
  • 200 free  – 1:56.65
  • 100 breast – 1:01.13
  • 200 breast – 2:11.62
  • 200 IM – 1:58.68

Gottler’s top times would have earned her 3 gold medals at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. Duquesne’s top breaststrokers, Abby Stauffer and Erin Kuhn, will have graduated by the time Goettler arrives on campus. She will be joining sprinter Leah Reisker in the fall of 2020.
