Sophomore standout Artur Osvath earned his first Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors of the season after his performance at the Missouri Show-Me Showdown. The award is Osvath’s third of his career.
He kicked off the 2016-17 season claiming one event and placing second in another, scoring big points for the Missouri State men’s swimming and diving team at the Bears’ 2016-17 season opener.
Osvath, who was the top performer for the Bears, competed in two individual events (100-yard butterfly and 100yd breaststroke) as well as two relays (200yd medley and 200yd freestyle). The 2015-16 MAC Outstanding Freshman of the Year won his first individual event of the season, swimming a 48.94 second, 100yd butterfly that currently sits as the No. 15 time in the country in that event.
Later in the meet, the Budapest, Hungary native competed in the 100yd breast, earning a second-place finish in a 55.61 second outing. Osvath’s time of 55.61 seconds in the event is currently ranked 11th in the nation. His efforts as the final leg of the 200yd freestyle relay (1:23.89) helped Missouri State finish second overall behind host Missouri.
The Missouri State men’s swimming and diving team returns to action Saturday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. for the Bears’ Alumni Meet at Hammons Student Center.
