Paige Dailey Gives UC-Davis Huge Breaststroke Boost for 2023

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

In pursuit of a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Paige Dailey has announced that she will be attending and swimming for the University of California, Davis beginning in the fall of 2023. Dailey currently resides in Centennial, Colorado where she is entering her senior year at Grandview High School while also swimming with the Aquawolves Swim Team. She is a breaststroke specialist, with Junior National qualifying times in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.

“I am so grateful and excited to announce my verbal commitment to
continue my athletic and academic career at UC Davis!!!  I’d like to
thank my teammates, friends, coaches, and family for all the love and
support!  I cannot wait to join a team full of such amazing women and
an amazing coaching staff! GO AGGIES💙💛”

Competing for her high school, Daily has been a CHSAA 5A Swimming and Diving State Championships qualifier all three years of high school. As a freshman and sophomore, she qualified in the 100 breast, finishing in 31st and 18th, respectively. She made a huge jump during her junior year, finishing 7th in the breast and adding a 38th place finish in the 200 IM. In the breast, she swam to a lifetime best during finals, stopping the clock at 1:03.94 after altitude adjustment.

Both of Dailey’s Junior National cuts came at the 2022 Sectionals meet held in Austin, Texas. There, she swam to a huge lifetime best in both breaststroke events, stopping the clock at 1:02.83 in the 100 and 2:16.35 in the 200. Entering the meet, she had only been below 1:04 in the 100 breast on one occasion and had never dipped below 2:20.0 in the 200 breast.

  • 100 breast – 1:02.83
  • 200 breast – 2:16.35
  • 200 IM – 2:14.73

UC-Davis finished in 5th out of 9 teams at the 2022 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championships. With her lifetime best times, Dailey would have scored in the A-final of both breaststroke events at the meet. She also could have potentially helped move the Aggies onto the podium in the medley relays. With her lifetime best time from a flat start, the addition of Dailey would have moved the program’s 400 medley relay from 5th to 4th, less than two tenths back from 3rd place.

While Dailey will never swim with rising senior Dani Fasan, who led the team in the 100 breast last season, she will have two years of overlap with the team’s top 200 breaststroker, rising sophomore Samantha Rhodes. Rhodes led the team last season with a time of 2:16.67 that she swam to win the B-final at the MPSF Championships. That time would have been fast enough to earn 4th in the A-final of the event.

With a year left to improve before entering the college ranks, Dailey already holds times that would rank her among the program’s all time top-10 in both breaststroke events.

The 2021-2022 school year was the Aggie’s first season under head coach Matt Macedo, who relaced longtime head coach Barbara Jahn last spring.
