A pair of swimmers from the Viper Aquatic Swim Team in Indiana have made their college decisions. Eric Oleson will swim for Wyoming, and Carin Ingram will swim for Marshall.
Oleson is primarily a freestyle, with an emphasis on the middle-distance races where he has yards bests of 1:42.93 and 4:32.67, respectively. It will be next-to-impossible for him to continue the rate of improvement that he saw as a junior, but between his sophomore high school championship meet in February of 2012, and those in February of 2013, he whacked 5 seconds off of his best time in the 200 and 15 seconds off of his best time in the 500 freestyles.
These are races where Wyoming happens to be very good already, though, so between his senior year with Viper and Westfield High School, and his freshman year at Wyoming, we could see his times get into the “wow” range in a hurry.
He’s the second Indiana native who has verbally committed to Wyoming this fall: Sam Loescher will also be a Cowboy.
Also committing out of Oleson’s same club team is Carin Ingram, who is going to Marshall. She was primarily recruited as a backstroker, with yards bests of 57.32 and 2:04.19, but has potential in the sprints as well, having gone 24.90 and 54.0.
Both swimmers train under coach Kyle Messmore, and are high school teammates as well at Westfield High School in the far northern suburbs of Indianapolis (just north of Carmel).
