Paltrinieri Takes the 1500 Freestyle in Milan

The first day of the 5th Trofeo Citta di Milano showed promising signs for many athletes who only using this competition like a training set.

Gregorio Paltrinieri took the men’s 1500 freestyle in a time of 14:58.49.

With that time Paltrinieri placed himself second in the world rankings tied with Ukrainian Mykhallo Romanchuck. The only person who has swum faster this year so far is Mack Horton who has recorded a 14:55.76.

Femke Heemskerk had a strong swim in the women’s 200 freestyle winning the event in a time of 1:56.68. Federica Pellegrini placed second in a time of 1:57.49. Heemskerk now ranks third in the world while Pellegrini sits in eighth.

Two Hungarians Zsuzsanna Jakabos and Daniel Gyurta both put up times that rank fourth in the world.

Jakabos took the women’s 200 butterfly in a time of 2:08.07. Gyurta won the men’s 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:11.54.

Aurora Poneele took the women’s 800 freestyle posting a time of 8:32.75, which puts her in eighth in the world rankings.

Gianluca Maglia won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:49.45.

Margherita Panziera took the women’s 200 backstroke in a time of 2:14.07 while Federico Turrini took the men’s event in a time of 2:01.11.

Elisa Celli won the women’s 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:01.11.
