Paralympic Trials Day 1 Finals Recap

U.S. Paralympic Team Trials

 

The U.S. Paralympic Trials kicked off to an exciting start today. This morning’s preliminary session began with four new American records and one Pan American record. Tonight’s finals session concluded with an additional three American Records and two Pan American records being broken.

In the women’s 100 m breastroke two American records and and one Pan American record were broken this evening. 2012 London Paralympian Colleen Young broke both the American and Pan American record in the SB13 class, finishing with a time of 1:30.63. Additionally, Leslie Cichocki broke her American record in the SB14 class that she set this morning with a time of 1:30.63.

Evan Austen broke the American record in the men’s SB7 100 m breastroke in an extremely close race. He managed to edge out Rudy Garcia-Tolson by a few hundredths of a second, finishing with a time of 1:23.39.

Competition will resume tomorrow morning with the 50 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle.
