The minute-by-minute swimming schedule for finals has been released for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The schedule has been a topic of discussion following the recent announcement of a few minor event order changes.
The schedule doesn’t really tell us anything we don’t already know in terms of who may be facing tough doubles, but it does show exactly how much time people will have in between these doubles.
With the recent schedule changes, Leon Marchand will now have about an hour and a half separating the the 200 fly and 200 breast final. The 200 fly is the 3rd event of the night, while the 200 breast is 7th. Originally the 200 breast came right after the 200 fly, which would’ve made the double pretty much impossible.
Canada’s Summer McIntosh will likely face a difficult turnaround right off the bat on day one with the final of the 4×100 free relay coming just half an hour after the final of the 400 free final. Another potential double for her was the 200 IM/800 free, but with only ten minutes separating the finals, that is looking more unlikely.
There is about an hour difference between the 200 backstroke final and 200 IM semifinal that could affect multiple swimmers, including Australian Kaylee McKeown .
The minute-by-minute schedule has been released for other Olympic sports as well, revealing a potentially historic lineup of events for the United States on August 3rd. The women’s 200 IM final will go off at 2:59pm (ET), which will be followed closely by the women’s 800m free final (3:09pm ET). On the track, the women’s 100m final will start at 3:20pm, right around when the 800m in the pool will be finishing up.
It is not out of the realm of possibility that the U.S. comes out of these 20-minutes with three gold medals. It would take Kate Douglass securing gold in the 200m IM, followed by Katie Ledecky winning the 800m free, and Sha’Carri Richardson rounding things out the 100m on the track.
The women’s vault final for gymnastics is also scheduled for the same Saturday with a start time of 10:19am (ET). This makes it only the second time ever that the Olympic schedule will feature finals of swimming, track & field, and gymnastics on the same day.

Hi everyone!
I would love to take my 8 year old daughter to see Ledecky at the Olympics. can you guide me on how to find out what days she will be swimming?
thanks!
Katie
Hey Katie! Her schedule won’t be official until after the Olympic Trials in June, but the most likely events you’re looking for are the women’s 400/800/1500 freestyles and the women’s 4×200 free relay on the schedule above. Possible women’s 4×100 free relay, but at this point it seems like the US sprint depth is going to be enough to push her off that finals relay, and it’s unlikely she’ll do a relay as a prelims-only swimmer.
Will KD swim the 50? Schedule not conducive. 50 semi right before 200IM final.
on the swimswam podcast, she indicated that it would be pretty unlikely that she pursues the 50 free at trials
On my tickets, the finals stat at 20:00, that is 8 PM in Paris. Yes I do have 3 swimming finals tickets. Now I have to decide if I am crazy enough to take my octrogenarian self to Paris by myself. I’ve been to Paris before and traveled by myself to Europe last year. At this point I’m sitting on the fence but will have to book the hotel soon. Found one a 7 minuite walk from La Defense, and not horribly outrageous. Of course nor refundable.
My swim nerd self really wants to go. What say you?
It’s pretty fun.
Yes, you have to. That’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. Paris is already amazing but Paris while the Olympics are there? You got to.
oh you gotta go.
What do we think about McIntosh in the 200 free? It comes an hour and 10 minutes after the 400 IM and she has the entire next day off, so it probably won’t negatively impact her other races too much. Even the prelims/semis aren’t bad since they both are on day 2 where she has no other events anyway.
Also I guess even the 800 free is potentially within reach; given that it’s the last event, it can’t negatively impact anything. Like she genuinely could swim the 200/400/800 free, 200/400 IM, and 200 fly under this schedule and potentially win 6 individual medals while still being quite rested for the 4 events where she has the best shot at gold.
I see her racing seven events now.
200 free
400 free
200 fly
200 IM
400 IM
+ finals in 4×100 free and 4×200 free
It seems like there is a possibility with the schedule that Summer could swim the 200 Free but I just can’t see her doing the 200IM and 800 Free back to back on Day 8. I still believe that she will swim the 200IM and not the 800 Free at the games.
Summer and her coach have always managed her schedule carefully and I just can’t see it being any different in Paris.
I suppose we may get a better idea when she swims at the Canadian Trials in May.
That would be a grueling double for sure but the idea is that even if she does that double, the 800 comes at the very end so it won’t adversely affect any of her other swims. I don’t think she could win silver but I think she could possibly pick up a bronze, although if Li Bingjie and Titmus are both near their bests in the event, that’s probably out of range too
ok actually I thought about it some more and am I crazy or would McIntosh actually reasonably be able to get silver in the 800 even after the 200 IM?
There’s about 8 minutes of “rest” between her finishing the 200 IM and then starting the 800 free. As a comparison, Katie Ledecky’s 1500 last year was basically the equivalent of two back to back 8:14 swims. I feel like Summer could pop out an 8:12 with that amount of rest
I think you’re crazy.
I know this is detailed down to the minute, but are we sure it’s final? There’s nothing in the article that says Bob has signed off.
Cameron McChoker will miss the Australian Olympic team for Paris. Calling it.
I’m halfway convinced you guys just want to manifest a WR and Olympic gold for him in the most roundabout way possible.
Ewww no. I want it to be either Dressel or Manaudou
Yeah, not convincing at all. The obsession speaks for itself.
When have I ever made a positive comment on McChoker on this site? That’s what I thought buddy
Aww, you don’t have to hide it 😉 don’t worry, I completely get it, he is Cameron McGreatness after all.
He’s a one event specialist while also having no Olympic medals. How is that greatness to you?
At aged 29 also.
He has 3 Olympic medals
I’m talking individually
cope
You own them 😭😭
It’s ridiculous to read how far the Paris organizing committee will go to see ‘their lad’ have the maximum time for multiple medals. Oh, well, I guess he’s their only really bright light. For sure, we won’t be seeing these kind of shenanigans @ LA 2028.
I really don’t think someone from the USA should be upset that the schedule was changed for someone. Not when NBC made the organisers change the times of finals for Rio, Beijing and Tokyo. AND THEN didn’t bother to show the swimming live over the whole country anyway.
NBC and the sponsors it brings – i.e, the billions – are the reasons the Olympics are still being held in 2024. Men’s basketball had one toe tagged and was half-a-chalk outline away from obscurity before NBC convinced the IOC that they needed to open the event to professional athletes. Even though the Dream Team dominated every opponent, and every team knew it was going to be dominated, they were the biggest show and the reason the TV ratings were better than any previous Olympics. When the U.S. boycotted the 1980 Olympics, those games became the proverbial ”If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, did it really make a sound?” Only the most astute Olympic… Read more »
Totally agree. Influence of usa over the years on OG schedules is way beyond this little marchand episode and way beyond any other country has ever done.
Marchand is not the only one getting privilege.
Regan Smith is too.
Luka mijatovic is gonna go 3:48 at trials
Thorpe was 3:49 at the 1997 Pan Pacs as a 14 year old too so it’ll be interesting to see if Luka can keep pace with the legend
Don’t forget Thorpe swam in briefs with outdated starting block and antiquated underwater and turns.
David Berkoff would like a word
Definitely need that fin on the blocks to really get the most out of your 400 free.
