Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
A two-event finalist at the Virginia High School State Championships earlier this year, Paul Warnagiris of Winchester, Virginia has announced his decision to swim and study at Gardner-Webb University beginning this fall.
“I’m super excited to announce I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Gardner-Webb University! I’ve worked very hard to get where I am today. I would like to thank my friends, family, and coaches for helping me along the way. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them and I’m very grateful for this opportunity to live out my teams as a D1 swimmer! Go Bulldogs!!”
Warnagiris finished his high school career in February while representing James Wood High School at the 2023 VHSL Class 4 Swimming and Diving State Championships in February. His top finish came in the 200 IM where he took 8th, touching in 1:58.53 in finals. He also added tenth place finish in the 100 breast (1:01.21). He was slightly faster in prelims, finishing in 1:00.64.
A month later, Warnagiris posted a pair of lifetime best times while racing at the NCSA Spring Championships in March. In the 200 breast, he touched in a personal best of 2:06.26 while also adding a best time in the 400 IM (4:05.60).
Top SCY Times
- 100 breast – 58.72
- 200 breast – 2:06.26
- 200 IM – 1:54.81
- 400 IM – 4:05.60
When Warnagiris joins the Runnin’ Bulldogs this fall he’ll be a huge boost to the program’s IM group. During the 2022-2023 school year, he would have led the team by nearly four seconds in the 400 IM while ranking third in the 200 IM. His time in the 400 IM would have also earned him a spot in the B-final of the event at the 2023 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships.
As a team, the Gardner-Webb men took 4th at the 2023 CCSA Championships. The title went to Queens University of Charlotte, who were in their first season of competing in the conference after making the jump to the Division 1 level last year.
