I may have missed this, but did her scratching the 400 IM yesterday have anything to do with this? I do think had she been healthy, she would have given Caitlyn a run for her money.

Well, Katy about 4 years ago was the new Shirley Babashoff, but things different work that way.

Agree with the point that he’s likely just WICKED frustrated on behalf of his athlete and trying to be polite. This is his marquis swimmer and there’s so much at stake for both of them.

Were they broadcasting the circle seeds? If you didn’t get a chance to see (or dissect the splits) yet, Katie looked in decent shape for most of the race and then just shut down when the field made a move with about 75 left. Really hit a wall. Not good.

I think this Trials might be the last we see of Katie Hoff. The 200 Free is a pretty deep field and I can think of 6 women who will almost certainly be faster than Hoff in the semis – Franklin, Schmitt, Vollmer, Beisel, Ledecky, Romano.

Once Katie starts to have a bad meet, it usually doesn’t change. She’s not really one to “bounce back” after a bad swim.. I hope she proves me wrong, but I’m not betting on it.

That’s a shame. Tough to wait four years then have something hit you on the week of. Hope she bounces back.

Anybody else think paul yetter is being a little strange? Not just about the katie thing but his swimmers in general. Not sure I buy the story. I wish it could have gone differently for her, but shes been a mess since ’09.

Not sure what you mean. What was strange about it?

Maybe its just me, but i think his manner is a little strange. He seems like hes trying too hard to be casual.

The vibe I got from that interview was one of MASSIVE disappointment, but still handling the interview in a classy way. It felt a little like, “Hey, she says she’s sick, so I guess she’s sick.”
