Peaty Comes Close to Breaking Two World Records in One Race

Many marvelled as Adam Peaty of Great Britain once again destroyed his own 100 breaststroke world record on Sunday night winning the Olympic gold in a time of 57.13. Over the first two days of the competition in Rio Peaty lowered his world record by almost a full second. Entering the Olympics the record stood at 57.92 in the prelims he set a new mark putting up a 57.55 and then last night improved on his time once again posting a 57.13.

If that was not enough Peaty was not far off taking down another of his world records in the same race. At the 50 meter mark he hit the wall in a time of 26.61, which is the third fastest 50 breaststroke of all time. The only two faster 50s ever swum were done by Peaty at last year’s World Championships. In the semi-final he set the world record putting up a 26.42 then went on to record a winning time of 26.51.

In Kazan South African Cameron van der Burgh, who won the silver in the 100 breaststroke on Sunday evening, finished second with a 26.62, which up until last night was the third fastest 50 breaststroke of all time.

In his prelims swim on Saturday Peaty took the first half of the race out in a 26.69, which pushed Damir Dugonjic of Slovenia out of the top 10 leaving just two names on that list.

Peaty now has seven of the top 10 times while van der Burgh has posted the other three.

All time top 10 performances:

  1. 26.42 – Adam Peaty – Kazan 2015
  2. 26.51 – Adam Peaty – Kazan 2015
  3. 26.61 – Adam Peaty – Rio 2016
  4. 26.62 – Cameron van der Burgh – Kazan 2015

Are you familar with the rules on the breaststroke kick and pullout? What Cody does (when he does it correctly) is legal, furthermore, in this race, he didnt show a hint of a second dolphin kick on the pullout.

Cody should in fact be disqualified, he did some small fly kicks when he entered the water just like Cameron did in 2012, then look at the difference between Adam and Cody and tell me if that is not a double kick.
