Penn State Women Pick Up Two More Verbals, From Rogers and Harper

Penn State has picked up a pair of verbal commitments: one from in-state, and one from outside of it.

Tara Rogers from Pennsylvania and Hannah Harper from Virginia have both committed to the Nittany Lions.

Rogers, who swims for North Penn, is a rangy freestyler. In yards, her flat-start bests are 51.95, 1:51.00, and 4:58.33, all of which were done in the high school post-season as a junior, and she also relay-split a 23.44 on a 200 free relay at the Pennsylvania High School State Championships meet.

Harper of the Virginia Gators, meanwhile, is a strong sprinter (24.7/53.3), but primarily comes in as a butterflier. In yards, she swam a 56.21 as a high school sophomore (mid-year to boot) in the 100 fly in 56.21, and at NCSA’s this past March was a 2:03.33 in the 200 fly.

The Penn State women have brought in two huge freshman classes in a row, and between those two huge classes, there aren’t many holes for the future. That allows new head coach Tim Murphy to really pick-and-choose the best athletes available him in his class of 2014.
