Pennsylvania State Runner Up Heather Gardner Commits To Liberty For 2020

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Heather Gardner, a junior at Mount Pleasant Area Senior High School and Mount Pleasant Aqua Club in Pennsylvania, has announced her verbal intention and commitment to swim for Liberty University in the fall of 2020. A sprint freestyler and breaststroker, Gardner’s career fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle that is only .14 seconds shy of making the Liberty All-Time Top Ten list while her best 100 yard breaststroke time would be good for the 5th fastest time in Liberty history.

“I am beyond excited to announce that I will be attending and swimming for Liberty University next year!  I can’t wait to see what the next 4 years have in store for me! Thank you to everyone who has supported me and helped me get to this point. I can’t wait to be apart of such an amazing program! #GoFlames ️”

At the 2019 Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League AA Championship meet, Gardner won the 50-yard freestyle, in a new PR, and 100-yard breaststroke, going 23.24 and 1:03.92 respectively. Two weeks later at the Pennsylvania AA High School State Championship meet, she won a pair of silver medals in the 50-yard freestyle (23.43) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.77) behind Pitt commit Emma Wilson and Auburn commit Annie O’Dare respectively.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 23.24
  • 100 free – 52.00
  • 100 breast – 1:02.77

Gardner’s best times in her signature events would have landed her in the ‘A’ final at the 2019 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championship meet; she would have been the Flames’ number 2 breaststroker behind current freshman Gianni Pitto. She will be joining 61-second breaststroker Jamyson Robb and middle distance freestyler Hannah Huenefeld as members of the class of 2024.
