Austin Mortimer from Pennsylvania has signed his National Letter of Intent to swim for the Buckeyes of Ohio State University.
Mortimer, a senior at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, is currently swimming for the JCCS Sailfish team, but was a member of the Franklin Area Swim Team for 12 years prior. With the JCCS Sailfish, Mortimer now has a larger distance training group, which is helpful because he specializes in the IM and distance freestyle events. From the first time Mortimer swam a meet at Ohio State, he knew the Buckeyes were a team that he would strongly consider when he started his recruitment process.
“I’m excited to be a member of the Ohio State men’s swim team because of the great tradition of the team,” Mortimer said. “The team is very cohesive. From the world class coaching staff to the excellent academics, I see myself thriving both as a student-athlete and as a person at Ohio State.”
Mortimer’s best SCY times include:
200 Freestyle – 1:40.22
500 Freestyle – 4:29.93
1000 Freestyle – 9:25.49
1650 Freestyle – 15:42.63
200 IM – 1:53.01
400 IM – 3:59.51
Mortimer clocked his fastest 200 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, and 1000 Freestyle times in 2014. He has dropped four seconds in his 200 and a second in his 500 since 2012. In the 1000 Freestyle, Mortimer has improved his time by 23 seconds over the past two years. His IM times have been more consistent during the same time period: his 200 IM, for example, has been around a 1:53-1:54 since 2012. Mortimer is currently training for Junior Nationals in December and hopes to continue to improve over his senior season before heading off to Ohio State to join the Buckeyes.
