Pepperdine Women Cruise Past Loyola Marymount

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women’s swim and dive team hosted Loyola Marymount on Friday evening, taking home wins in 12 out of the 14 events for a 180-82 win over the Lions.

MEET RECAP

The Waves started the meet off with a win in the women’s 400 medley relay, from Emily MortonAnna Riekhof, Sarah Hamilton, and Jenna Sanchez with a time of 4:01.72.

In the third event, the 200 freestyle, the Waves took home the top four places with Nohea Lileikis posting the win in a time of 1:55.40, followed by Sammie Slater (1:57.98), Julianna Birlin (2:00.08) and Khloe McCarthy (2:00.13).

Caroline Eckel snagged two individual wins in both the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 58.13 and 2:09.76 respectively. In the 200 butterfly, Caroline Anderson received the win with a time of 2:10.29. Mackenzie Hamlett battled to first in the 500 freestyle, swimming a 5:10.75.

Sanchez earned her own individual win in the 50 freestyle, touching in a time of 24.93. In the 100 freestyle Amy Griffin won with a time of 53.96, she was followed closely by Slater in second (54.93). Morton swam really well with two first place finishes for herself in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.66) and 200 IM (2:08.88).

The squad of Birlin, Griffin, Sanchez and Slater took home the final win on the day in the 200 freestyle relay, touching in a time of 1:39.83. The Waves followed with a second place finish as well from the team of Trinity IshikawaPaige Brackett, Eckel and Lileikis (1:41.41).

NEXT UP: The Waves will be hosting the Pepperdine Winter Invite at East Los Angeles College on November 22-24.

The Loyola Marymount University Lions women’s swimming team was back in the pool on Friday evening when they traveled to Malibu for a dual meet with West Coast Conference rival Pepperdine.

Senior Lanna Kozlowski and freshman Kelli Andrade continued their winning ways by each winning an event. Kozlowski dominated the 1000 freestyle by over a pool length touching the wall in a 10:47.04 a full 20 seconds ahead of Pepperdine’s Olivia Kayye. LMU’s Christine Chan placed third at 11:10.51. Later in the competition, Kozlowski added a couple of second place finishes in the 500 freestyle and 200 individual medley with Chan taking third in the IM.

Andrade’s win came in the 100 breaststroke where she again dropped her season best time by a full second touching the wall in 1:06.50, a full second ahead of Pepperdine’s Emily Morton. In the 200 breaststroke, Andrade and Morton switched positions with Morton getting her hand on the wall first and Andrade in the runner up position. Sophmore Lydia Zicker picked up the fifth place points for the Lions in both the 100 and 200.

Junior Audrey Hixon was LMU’s top scorer in the backstroke events, taking second place in the 200 and third in the 100. Freshman Sarah Lu added team points in the 200 taking fourth.

In the sprint freestyle events, junior Serena Myatt placed second for the Lions in the 50 freestyle with a season best time of 25.16. Freshman Jillian Powell added a point with a fifth place finish in 25.94. In the 100 freestyle, Mikayla Tseng was the top Lion taking third while Myatt touched the wall in fifth place.

Tseng also picked up a second place finish in the 100 butterfly touching in 59.93. In the 200 butterfly, a trio of lions scored led by junior Taylor Pajunen in second place, followed by senior Olivia Nielsen in third and sophomore Sabine Caplin in fourth.

Pepperdine was able to dominate the Lions in the two relay events with a first and third place finish in the 400 medley relay and a one-two finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The Waves won the competition with 180 points to 82 for the Lions.

The Lions have two weeks off from competition while they prepare for a three-day Pepperdine Invitational on Nov. 22-24 at East Los Angeles College against seven other division one programs including UCSB, UCSD, USD, Cal Poly, Cal Baptist, Pepperdine and CSUB.
