Pepperdine’s Sanchez, Valley Named PCSC Athletes of the Week

MALIBU, California – Following standout performances over the weekend, Jenna Sanchez and Vivian Vallely have been named the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference swimmer and diver of the week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

In her season debut against Loyola Marymount on Friday, Sanchez (Highland, Calif./Redlands East Valley HS) posted one of the Waves’ top breaststroke splits with a 30.3 on the 200 medley relay.  Additionally, she won the 50 free individually with a 24.9 showing. The following day against UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego, Sanchez raced the fastest 100 free for the program this season with a 52.8.  She also managed to get the National Invitational Championship B standard in the 50 fly with a 25.5 time.

Vallely (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions on Saturday against UCSB and UCSD. She posted season-best scores of 235.43 on the 1-meter board and 248.10 on the 3-meter board.

These are the first career weekly honors for both athletes, and the fourth and fifth weekly awards for Pepperdine this season. Charli SunaharaAmanda Wong and AJ Adams were named the conference’s athletes of the week on October 18.

Pepperdine’s divers will head to Los Angeles for the Trojan Diving Invite on Friday, November 11 and Sunday, November 13. Both swim and dive will be in competition from November 17-19 at Utah Tech for the Trailblazer Invite in St. George, Utah.
