Peru Scratches Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay From Day Two Pan Am Finals

The Peruvian team that finished seventh this morning in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay has scratched themselves from tonight’s finals. The team collectively put together a time of 8:05.46 this morning, finishing 46.28 seconds behind the Americans and 26.16 seconds behind sixth place Argentina.

With the Peruvians out of the final, that gives team Argentina and team Mexico open water in the empty lanes beside them. All other countries will remain in the final. The Americans will be in lane four, the Canadians in lane five.

There aren’t any big individual scratches heading into finals on day two. The biggest scratch comes from Brazil’s Brandonn Almeida. Almeida was the 10th seed overall and had secured lane five in the men’s 200 backstroke final.

With Almeida gone, Jamaican backstroker Tim Wynter will get a chance to swim in the finals. It has not yet been announced whether he has accepted this finals spot.

Wynter was a 2:07.17 this morning to finish 17th overall. This is the second time in as many days that a scratch has allowed Wynter to move into a consolation final. On night one, Wynter moved up in the 100m freestyle due to two scratches in the ‘B’ final. He was the 18th seed after prelims. In that instance he swam and finished sixth.

The last final of the night comes in the consolation final of the 200m breaststroke. Izzy Joachim scratched from the consolation final leaving none effected. She was 16th overall after prelims out of 16 swimmers.
