Phelps Tops Jordan by One Stroke at Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational

Late September, 2012, in the afterglow of his 22-medal winning career end at the 2012 London Olympics, Michael Phelps met his hero, Michael Jordan.   The encounter happened during a taping of the Ryder Cup-themed “Feherty Live”. Phelps was introduced to his life-long idol, and he was so overwhelmed by His Airness’ presence Phelps could scarely speak.

“That’s the only person in the world who could do that to me,” Phelps stated to USA Today. “He’s the greatest.”

Greatness met greatness again at the 12th Annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational at Shadow Creek in North Las Vegas, according to TotallyWP.

True, this is golf and not swimming or basketball, but the match between two fiercely competitive icons is hard not to notice.

The winner? Olympic Swimming great, Phelps, topped Olympic Dream Teamer, Jordan, by one stroke. Phelps shot a 72 to Jordan’s 73.

Michael Phelps may have had an unfair advantage, considering he’s in the throws of intense golf training. After London, Phelps quickly announced he’d be the next star of Golf Channel’s The Haney Project. (If you’re not a golf fan, but curious about the sport, the series entertains. Phelps has had struggles and triumphs under Haney’s watchful eye.  See the most epic putt, 159 feet, you can imagine by Mr Swimming himself right here.)

Here’s Phelps at the Ryder-Cup where he “first” met Michael Jordan.

Mike (Phelps)!

A 72 for 18 holes?

What was the par for the course?

Anyway, a 72 for a novice golfer like MP is pretty darn good. In fact, it’s great!

Not a very attractive shot. Lime green needs to be teamed with navy blue & a little white.

Is this the part where the Looney Toons show up and get him to swim for them?
