Photovault: Katie Ledecky Meets Princess Anne In First United States Visit Since 1994

Olympic champion Katie Ledecky got the opportunity to meet British royalty on Wednesday as Princess Anne, daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, visited the United States for the first time in 20 years and hosted a private reception where Ledecky and her family were among the invitees.

Ledecky met with Princess Anne and British Ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott at the British Embassy in Washington.

Besides hosting the reception which was relatively quaint with approximately only 100 people there; Princess Anne was present in the United States in order to cut the ribbon at the grand opening of an exhibit celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. The exhibit is held at the Library of Congress where Princess Anne took part in the ceremony Thursday.

Princess Anne also attended a ceremony at the Tomb of the unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

This is just further proof for me that Katie needs to focus on Rio and go pro.

She clearly isn’t the normal teenaged kid. Normal doesn’t apply to her. She’s decidedly ABnormal.

Trying to go the NCAA route to ‘be normal’ is pointless. Normal kids don’t get invites to foreign embassies to meet dignitaries who wish to spend time with them.

She can’t be ordinary, normal or anonymous.

She’s Katie Effing Ledecky.

She’s extraordinary, abnormal and famous.

PS- I will only refer to her as Katie Effing Ledecky going forward. Effing for short. Thanks Grantland.

Princess Anne is one of Britain’s IOC reps & is herself an Olympian ( something to do with horses) as is her daughter Zara ( I think) .

A wonderful honor for Katie Ledecky, and, frankly, an honor for Princess Anne as well.

Hmmm, my invitation must have been lost in the mail. Oh well, next time then.
