Over his career, Piedmont set school records in seven events: the 100, 200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyles as well as part of the 400 free relay and 400 medley relay. Piedmont was elected team captain his senior season of 1969-70. After graduating, Piedmont served in the United States Navy, where he was a pilot for more than 20 years. Piedmont is now retired in resides in Clearwater, Fla.
