Pirates Sweep Conference USA Swimming and Diving Awards

East Carolina swept the Conference USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors as junior Lauren Chew and senior Colleen Jones helped the Pirates cap a perfect 11-0 season with a 129-94 win over Campbell on Feb. 8 at Minges Natatorium.

Chew took top honors in the 500 freestyle, setting the Minges Natatorium season record with a time of 4:59.53 against Campbell. The junior finished second in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 1:53.86. This is the first Swimmer of the Week award of Chew’s career.

Jones won the both the one- and three-meter diving competitions in a dual meet with Campbell. The senior posted a score of 234.52 in the one-meter event, edging second place by 0.75 points. In the three-meter dive, Jones earned a score of 268.73 points. Her 18-point day helped to seal the win and undefeated season for ECU. This is Jones’ second Diver of the Week honor of the season and her career (Jan. 28).

The Pirates will return to action beginning Feb. 26 in Atlanta for the 2014 Conference USA Swimming & Diving Championships.
