Pitt Swim & Dive Unveils Their 2017-18 Slate

The Pitt swimming & diving team unveiled its 2017-18 schedule Friday morning, announcing a slate that features four home meets at Trees Pool and a challenging schedule with duals against nationally recognized programs as well as local and regional rivals.

“We’re excited to release a competitive schedule that features several of the best programs in the country,” Pitt head coach John Hargis said. “We believe that competing against the best better prepares our student-athletes to be ready at the ACC and NCAA level. For our program to continue to elevate, we have to be comfortable competing at this level.”

Pitt will open the 2017-18 campaign at Georgia Tech on Friday, Oct. 6 with a 3 p.m. ACC dual at theMcAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, which hosted last year’s ACC Swimming & Diving Championships.

The Panthers then host two marquee home meets on consecutive weekends at the end of October.

Pitt welcomes conference foe Virginia and SEC program LSU to Trees Pool for a two-day meet on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21. The next weekend, the Panthers will face another ACC rival, Miami, along with Michigan State of the Big Ten and James Madison in a home quad meet on Friday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m.

The following weekend, Pitt heads on the road for a two-day, five-team meet at Rutgers against the Scarlet Knights of the Big Ten and Big East programs Villanova, Seton Hall and Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5.

The Panthers will then return to the extremely competitive Ohio State Invitational in Columbus, Ohio from Nov. 17-19 before concluding the calendar year with USA Swimming Winter Nationals back in Columbus from Nov. 29-Dec. 2 and USA Diving Winter Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. from Dec. 13-19.

Pitt will once again host the Team Pitt Christmas Meet at Trees Pool from Dec. 14-17.

After the turn of the year, Pitt swimming & diving begins 2018 with the renewal of the Backyard Brawl at West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 6 in Morgantown, W.V.

The Panthers then conclude the dual season with consecutive home meets on the last two weeks in January. First, Pitt will welcome Denison on Friday, Jan. 19 before the Panthers host the annual Western PA Invite, Pitt’s Senior Meet, the next weekend at Trees Pool on Friday, Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27.

Pitt’s championship portion of the season opens with the 2017-18 ACC Championships on consecutive February weeks in Greensboro, N.C. The women’s ACC Championships will be held from Feb. 14-17 before the men’s ACC Championships take place Feb. 21-24.

The NCAA Last Chance Meet will once again be held in Columbus on Feb. 25 (women) and March 4 (men), while the NCAA Zone Diving Meet is set for March 5-7 at Rutgers, as the Panthers will look to qualify numerous student-athletes for NCAAs this season.

The 2017-18 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships are set for consecutive weeks in March. The women’s NCAA Championships will be in Columbus, Ohio from March 14-17 before the men’s NCAA Championships take place in Minneapolis, Minn., from March 21-24.
