PITTSBURGH – Following tough dual meet losses at Duke, Pitt swimming and diving is set to host Georgia Tech on Saturday, Oct. 17, with competition slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Trees Pool.

Saturday’s meet is Pitt’s annual “Pink the Pool” event, held each year to support the fight against breast cancer. Pink swim caps will be on sale with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The first 50 fans will receive a pink Pitt swimming and diving themed towel. Susan G. Komen wristbands and temporary tattoos will be on hand for fans, as well as the 2015-16 team poster.

Last season, the Panthers traveled to Atlanta, Ga., to face the Yellow Jackets, resulting in the women’s team’s first ACC dual meet victory, 169-131. The women also posted a win over Georgia Southern on the day. The men’s side fell to GT, 170-125.

Several top performers from last year’s meet will reappear this weekend. Strong showings for the men were turned in by junior Tony Galante, who took first in both the 1M and 3M diving competitions, and senior Mack Rice, who had three top-three finishes.

The women were paced by sophomore Amanda Richey, who won the 200, 500, and 1000-yard freestyles. Senior Danyel Johnson claimed the 50 to round out a sweep of the freestyle events. Junior Kinga Cichowska won the 100 and 200 breast, while senior Blair Wegescheide took first in the 100 back.

Earlier this month at Duke, Cichowska turned in perhaps the strongest day for the Panthers, winning the 100 and 200 breast. In the women’s 1000 free, Richey and senior Kaleigh Ritter finished first and second, respectively. Richey went on to claim the win in the 500 free as well.

Junior diver Dom Giordano took first in the men’s 3M diving competition and second in the 1M, while senior David Sweeney won the men’s 200-yard freestyle.
