While Poland’s roster has improved in its ratios from last year’s World Championships, where they sent 12 men and 3 women, the lineup for the 2014 European Championships still shows the huge gender-gap that the federation has faced since the 2008 Olympics.
Specifically, the team will send 12 men and 4 women, including all three men who won individual medals at the World Championships last year: Konrad Czerniak (bronze, 100 fly), Radoslaw Kawecki (silver, 200 back, European Record), and Pawel Korzeniowski (silver, 200 fly).
As for the women’s team, they return all three swimmers from their Worlds roster, none of whom finaled, and add to the mix sprinter Alicja Tchorz.
Increasing the number by one will allow Poland to put together finals-worthy relays in both the 400 free and 400 medley events, as Tchorz is both a very good sprint freestyler (56.54) and a passable sprint breaststroker (1:09.36 in short course, untapered).
