In the shuffle of swimming & diving “senior days” over the past few weekends, one particularly special group of outgoing swimmers were honored.
Last Saturday, William Jewell college recognized its first class of seniors since the swimming & diving programs were reinstated in 2010. The class of 7 seniors were the first to sign on with William Jewell to help rebuild the program after several decades of absence.
William Jewell cut its men’s program in 1982 and it’s women’s team in 1991. This class of 7 seniors signed on with the program in the spring of 2011:
- Austin Andrews – Lamar, MO
- Samuel Blacksher – Kansas City, MO
- Nathan Graber – Kansas City, MO
- Matthew Luton – Kansas City, MO
- Maggie Metz – Topeka, KS
- Benjamin Plank – Wichita, KS
- Joshua Sawers – Aylesbury, UK
“The program would not be where it is today without their efforts,” said head swimming & diving coach Mark Gole. “They have endured every growing pain that a new team experiences. I am incredibly proud of their efforts and I am excited to see what they will do at the GLVC Championships in two weeks.”
The 7 seniors will all officially earn their degrees this spring.
