Princeton Reels In Verbal Commitment from #15 Eleanor Sun for 2023-24

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Eleanor Sun from Bethesda, Maryland, has verbally committed to the application process* at Princeton University and will join the Tigers in the fall of 2023.

“I am incredibly excited and grateful to announce my verbal commitment to the application process at Princeton University and will attend if admitted! A huge thank you to my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me get to this point, especially my amazing parents. I can’t wait to continue my academic and athletic career with such a tremendous team and cool 😎 coaches!! GO TIGERS!!! 🐯🧡🖤”

Sun is a junior at Bethesda’s Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart who does her year-round swimming with Nation’s Capital Swim Club. A two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, she ranks #15 on our Way Too Early List of girls recruits from the high school class of 2023.

A strong IMer, Sun went from 4:20.2 to 4:14.2 in the 400 IM, and from 2:01.2 to 1:59.8 in the 200 IM, last year. Since then, she improved to a 4:13.4 in the 400 IM with a third-place finish in the event at the 2021 NCAP Invitational in December. She also finaled in the 200 IM (2nd place with 2:00.48), 100 breast (1st place, 1:02.98), 200 breast (2nd place, 2:17.07), and 200 fly (3rd place, 1:59.54). In the spring, she notched best times in the 100/200 fly at Potomac Valley Swimming’s Short Course Championship Series. This fall, she improved her PBs in the 50/200/500 free and 100/200 breast.

Sun competed at U.S. Open in December and came in fourth in the 200 fly. She also placed 11th in the 200 IM, 14th in the 100 fly, and 19th in the 100 breast. Her best LCM times in the IMs are 2:17.91/4:49.81. Her fly times are 1:01.89/2:13.09, and she has been 1:11.95/2:34.63 in breaststroke.

The Ivy League did not hold a championship meet in the 2020-21 season due to COVID but in 2020, Sun’s best times would have scored for Princeton in the A finals of the 200/400 IM, 200 fly, and 200 breast.

Best SCY times:

  • 400 IM – 4:14.26
  • 200 IM – 1:59.86
  • 200 fly – 1:58.80
  • 100 fly – 54.79
  • 200 breast – 2:15.64
  • 100 breast – 1:02.98

Princeton have gotten an early start on recruiting the class of 2027, with verbal commitments from Edie Simecek (2023 Best of the Rest) and Mary McKenna (Honorable Mention), as well as South Africa’s Veronique Rossouw.

*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].
