Princeton Women’s Swimming and Diving Adds Juan Sequera As Volunteer Assistant

Juan Sequera has joined the coaching staff at Princeton University as Volunteer Assistant with the women’s swimming and diving team.

Sequera is moving to Princeton from Tallahassee, Florida, where he spent the last three years as head coach of Club Seminole Swim Team. He also coached the Lincoln High School Swim Team. During his tenure, the Trojans qualified over 50 swimmers for the Florida High School state championships, won 1 state title, earned 24 state podium finishes, and broke 5 school records.

Sequera grew up swimming in Venezuela where he was a national record-holder in the 400 IM (4:29.36) and a member of the national team. As a member of the Venezuelan Youth National Team, he represented his country at the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics and the 2011 Peru Swimming Youth World Championships.

Sequera swam for Florida State University from 2011 to 2014. He was named the 2011-12 ACC Freshman of the Year after competing at NCAAs in the 200/400 IM and 200 breast. He broke the FSU school record in the 400 IM with a 3:45.83 and was awarded All-ACC honors after earning two bronze medals at the ACC Championships in the 200 breast and 400 IM.

Bret Lundgaard is the head coach of the Princeton women’s team. He came to Princeton from Tennessee at the start of the 2017-18 season. Two years later, he guided the Tigers back to the top of the Ivy League with a 9-1 (7-0 Ivy League) record and the Championship Meet title.
