The last prelims session of the Pro Swim Series – Mission Viejo kicks off this morning, featuring the 100 back, 200 breast, 200 IM, and 50 free. Many of the events today include a top seed who is seeded well ahead of the rest of the field. Cal’s Isabelle Stadden comes into the women’s 100 back with her personal best of 58.99, making her the only woman in the field to enter with a time under 1:00. Similarly, Justin Ress is seeded first in the men’s 100 back by nearly two full seconds. Will Licon comes in as the top men’s 200 breaststroker by over four seconds.
Polish national Katarzyna Wasick swam close to her personal best to win the women’s 100 free on Thursday night, and enters as the top seed in the 50 free this morning. Given the 50 has historically been Wasick’s best event, and she had a great 100 a few days ago, we might see a low-24 out of her tonight.
Ryan Held will try to win the men’s 50 free today after taking the 100 free on Thursday night. His work is cut out for him, as he’ll have to contend with Justin Ress and David Curtiss, but Held is the top seed.

The swim comes in 0.11 seconds under his previous best, which was set at the Richmond Pro Swim Series meet in January of 2021.
100 free champion Ryan Held was 2nd this morning with a 22.43, and has the fastest personal best in the field. Justin Ress, another NC State product, was a top seed as well, but Declared False Start (DFS), apparently choosing to focus on the 100 back tonight.
Is it me but it seems the Pro Series aren’t being well attended by many elite swimmers (National teamers and top end)….not just this meet but the entire series has been disappointing?!?
It was basically a Sandpipers intrasquad meet. well not quite, ASU, Cal, Usc, Tx sent some swimmers. The local teams didn’t show, Speedo grand challenge at Nova was last week so that took away from the depth. SoCal has SMOC, Grand Challenge, LA invite most years they really didn’t have room for this meet on the schedule and add in COVID travel BS and here we are.
Kozan, Odgers, and O’Dell I think are some of the better local swimmers. Odgers use to swim in the area before college.
*3rd A-final for Teagan
Excited to see Grimes in the 800 tonight
Yeah her 800 from trials was the strangest swim of the meet, IMO. Not sure what happened there, especially since it was first and she calls it one of her favorite events. Obviously it was her Olympic event.
Agreed. And the strange thing is that her 400 and 1500 were both on… 4:06 and 15:51 at trials, but her 800 5 second add… maybe just a fluke. it is her signature event IMO. 8:17.0 is sensational
it might be because it’s the only personal best she has from an olympic final. probably a bit better than her other times
prelims not finals but it is her only personal best from the Olympics (her prelims pb would’ve medaled)
Daaaavid Curtis with a 21.76 in prelims…whoa
Maggie to LSU 🙂
This makes me excited !

Licon might win the war of attrition in 200br if he hangs in to Paris. I’d love for him to make the team. He may have the stubbornness to do it.
Held and the rest just a swimming prelims then catching a flight?
