PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams swept the University of Maine Black Bears in dual meet action on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Taylor Natatorium. The meet served as the backdrop for the program’s annual senior day. The women’s team claimed a 161-139 victory over Maine, while the men’s team won by a margin of 203-91.

The women’s side captured nine first-place individual finishes and swept the relays. Katie Winklosky and Sally Alrutz were multi-event winners. Alrutz also competed in both winning relays. A list of top finishes is below.

On the men’s side, the Friars claimed victory in 11 individual events and Providence swept the relays. Kevin HoodQuinn Danus and Will Layden each won multiple events. Layden also competed on both of the winning relays. A list of top finishes is below.

Providence, R.I. — The University of Maine women’s swimming & diving team registered five individual wins in a 161-139 loss at Providence College on Saturday afternoon.

Kayla Loughman and Haylie Calver each led the Black Bears with two individual victories each. Loughman took top honors in the 100 sc meter breaststroke (1:17.59) and the 200 sc meter breaststroke (2:46.38) while Calver swept the diving events with a score of 241.20 in the 1-meter event and a mark of 241.20 in the 3-meter.

The Black Bears swept the podium in the diving events. Calver, who won both events, was followed by Ashley LeClaire who took second in both the 1m (224.70) and 3m (224.70). Maddie Ruppert took the bronze in the 1m (213.25) and the 3m (223.50).

Laura Dube took the gold in the 200 sc meter IM with a winning time of 2:27.03.

Mia Poirier found the podium in three events. Poirer was the runner-up in the 200 sc meter freestyle (2:12.78), placed third in the 50 sc meter freestyle (28.33), and found bronze in the 100 sc meter freestyle (1:01.68).

Kathleen Bendoraitis led Maine in the distance events, finishing second in the 400 sc meter freestyle (4:40.15) and took third in the 800 sc meter freestyle at 9:45.79.

Madison Edwards placed second in the 100 sc meter breaststroke at 1:07.66 and touched the wall third at 2:29.00 in the 200 sc meter backstroke. Marlee Canale was the runner-up in the 200 sc meter backstroke (2:25.90) and took third in the 100 sc meter backstroke at 1:07.91.

Aubrey St. Pierre was the runner-up in the 100 sc meter breaststroke at 1:17.15.

Morgan Bui took a pair of third place marks in the 100 sc meter breaststroke (1:17.59) and the 200 sc meter breaststroke (2:49.12).

Maine’s 200 sc meter medley relay team of Edwards, Bui, Isabelle Irani, and Loughman placed as the runner-ups in the event at 2:03.03. Loughman, Cam Hargraves, Syd Loper, and Poirer placed second in the 200 sc meter freestyle relay with a final time of 1:51.79.

Providence, R.I. — Finn Devers and Riley Clark each scored individual victories in Maine’s 203-91 loss at Providence College on Saturday.

Devers scored his victory in the 200 sc meter freestyle with a winning time of 1:57.70 while adding a runner-up mark in the 100 sc meter freestyle at 54.06. Clark swept the diving events, winning the 1m at 238.05 and the 3m with a mark of 238.05. DJ Mulligan was the runner-up in the diving events with marks of 228.52 and 228.52.

Kaden Kilger placed second in the 400 sc meter freestyle at 4:13.01 while Cam Watelet was the runner-up in the 100 sc meter butterfly with a time of 1:00.34.

Liam Blair turned in a runner-up mark in the 100 sc meter backstroke with a final time of 59.76 while adding a third place finish in the 200 sc meter backstroke with a time of 2:14.72. Julian LaPietra added a bronze finish in the 100 sc meter freestyle at 55.15.

The 200 sc meter medley relay team of Blair, Nate Teerlinck, Watelet, and Kevin Arpin finished third with a time of 1:48.08. Devers, Blair, Kilger, and Arpin teamed up to finish second with a time of 1:37.69 in the 200 sc meter freestyle relay.
