Pruitt Walther Announces Commitment for Michigan State

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Pruitt Walther has made her commitment for the Fall to Michigan State University of the Big 10 Conference. Walther will be the fifth swimmer on the Lady Spartans roster from the Buckeye state making it the strongest pipeline state. She is currently a senior at Centerville High School (OH) and swims club for the Dayton Raiders of the Ohio Swimming LSC.

“I’m super excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Michigan State University!! Go Spartans!!”

Walther is hitting her prime at the right time landing personal best times in her five strongest events this past Winter season. She earned her first Junior Nationals cut time in February in the 100 butterfly (55.71) at the Ohio High School Sectionals Championship. At the same meet, she earned her best time in the 200 IM at 2:03.42 which would have been the fastest time of the season for Michigan State. Her successes are found in more than just the pool, though, as she was awarded the Student Athlete of the Month by the Dayton Daily News in February last season.

“The most rewarding part of my job is getting to experience outstanding student-athletes like Pruitt Walther. She has represented our swim program and our school community with the utmost integrity and class. She is going to be so successful as she moves on with her life.” — Centerville Athletic Director Rob Dement

Best Times (SCY):

  • 200 Backstroke: 2:02.95 (2019 Futures)
  • 100 Breaststroke: 1:05.56 (2019 Futures)
  • 100 Butterfly: 55.71 (Winter Junior Nationals)
  • 200 Butterfly: 2:05.99
  • 200 IM: 2:03.42
  • 400 IM: 4:23.42

Michigan State finished 12th place at last month’s Big 10 Championship at Indiana University. Walther will be on the outside looking regarding individual point-scoring opportunities at conference next year, but she is right on the cusp. In both the IM events, she is within three seconds of qualifying for the bonus consolations based on 2019 results. In the 100 butterfly, where she would top the Lady Spartans team rankings, she would have missed bonus consolations by 1.2 seconds. However, she has cut almost two seconds in both events in the past year. Given her current trajectory, she appears to be an early favorite to earn a spot in the medley relay events.
