After losing one of their top sprinters, Abby Jagdfeld, to Wisconsin, the Purdue women’s team was left with a hole to fill. Luckily, they picked up a big transfer from Duke, Hanna House, to help make up her points.
House, a product of the Carmel Swim Club in Indiana, came out of high school as a 23.7/51.6 sprint freestyler and a 54.1/1:58 backstroker, was one of the reasons that we ranked Duke as the #12 recruiting class in 2014.
House’s commitment story is a bit longwinded. She originally verbally committed to the Virginia Cavaliers during her senior season, then later de-committed and signed with Notre Dame. After that, she “re-explored” her options and “fell in love with Duke.” She was granted a release from Notre Dame to transfer to their intra-conference ACC opponents at Duke. She did not compete her first semester with Duke for undisclosed reasons but competed for the Blue Devils during the second semester.
This year she is listed on Purdue’s roster and is eligible to compete immediately. She swam her first three races as a Boilermaker in East Lansing, Michigan today at the outdoor tri-dual with Michigan and Michigan State. She finished fifth in the 100m back with a 1:08.48, sixth in the 200 back at 2:30.06, and fifth in the 100 butterfly at 1:07.46, even though the butterfly was an exhibition swim.
Purdue Head Coach John Klinge told us he is very excited to have Hanna on the team.
“Hanna has joined our team and we are excited to have her as a part of our program. She’s a talented swimmer who will help us in multiple events. She has been a great addition and the team has really embraced her.”
I hope it all works out for Hannah at Purdue & this is her last stop. Seems like she can’t make up her mind which school to stay at. Life is about more than swimming – its about getting an education.
She was this way in high school too…she did not start at carmel but went to homestead first then transferred
To whomever wrote Hanna’s bio it is wrong she grew up in Fort Wayne indiana and transferred to carmel after her freshman year. Her first year of high school was completed at homestead under coach chad englehart. As good as carmel is, they cannot claim that they built this swimmer up right from the start
