Today in Tianjin at the National Games of China, junior wunderkind Qin Haiyang lowered his own world junior record and Chinese national record to win the 200 breast by well over a second. Qin finished the race in 2:07.35.
Qin undercut the previous world junior and Chinese records by a second and a half. His old mark was a 2:08.71 from the 2017 Chinese National Championships.
You can see a split comparison between Qin’s April swim and today’s record below.
2017 Chinese Champs | 2017 Ntl. Games of China | |
1st leg | 29.30 | 29.35 |
2nd leg | 33.42 | 32.22 |
3rd leg | 32.86 | 32.76 |
4th leg | 33.13 | 33.02 |
Time: | 2:08.71 | 2:07.35 |
Qin still has the 200 breast to go this week in Tianjin.
Editor’s Note: all records await ratification before they’re official, but especially World Junior Records, which go unrecognized at a notoriously-high rate as compared to other records.
Oh this is the guy who swam a 2:07.35 200m as an 18 year old in 2017, and really hasn’t put up any super notable results since.
IDK is always nice to see talent like this seemingly get back on track, I wonder what he has in store in the 200.
Really controlled swim. 32 low, 32 high and 33 in the last 50.
Pretty much the same splits that the japanese guy did in budapest.
I’m talking about Watanabe not Koseki (obviously)
2.07.47 with 28.96 – 32.59 – 32.91 – 33.01
Who controls the doping labs and out of competition testing for Chinese Nationals? With a few exceptions, these swimmers seem to do a lot better in the Chinese Nationals than in overseas meets, where they are subjected to more transparent drug testing and thorough airport searches.
Hey, why all the down votes? Between 1992 and 1998, At least 28 Chinese swimmers tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. In 1998 Yuan Yuan was busted at the airport on the way to the FINA Worlds in Perth with enough HGH to dope the entire Chinese team. 6 more swimmers failed tests in 2015 and Sun Yang failed in 2014. There are likely many more, including masking violations with Triamterene and Lasix. Whether you like it or not, there is an endemic doping problem with the Chinese, whether state sponsored or individually initiated.
I watched the DDR systematically dope from 1973 to 1989 and everyone kept quiet in the name of “sportsmanship”. The DDR did so with chilling,… Read more »
The downvotes are because the swimmers swimming well at this meet are also doing well internationally. No new names making huge drops.
Li bingjie performed well in budapest
Qin haiyang swam a 1:57 in the 200IM in Budapest. And did a tough double by swimming the 200 breast.
Xu jiayu is their top backstroker. We know him internationally.
Etc.
Wang shun has been competing for years. No positive test.
Doping in China is individually based and there has been improvement.
As for sun yang. The drug he took was actually legal when he was taking it. But chinada messed up and didn’t update their data base.
So you,’ll get downvoted for lumping clean athletes with dirty one,s… Read more »
It seems to me that Breastroke has really improved in the last 4-6 years!
Such a dramatic post..
Jjwhwjklspsbqkkqkrjkqjqgegewuoqowkenrn?
I couldnt understand anything …
Crazy how quickly a 2:07 low/mid went from being super legit and almost unheard of to being somewhat common…
Doing
any evidence whatsoever to confirm this?
