CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Both the men’s and women’s programs of Queens University of Charlotte swimming came away with victories in the 2019 Sheraton/Le Meridien Fall Frenzy after combining for seven wins and two meet records on the final day of competition at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
The fourth-ranked Queens men finished first overall among 13 total teams, including No. 6 Nova Southeastern University, No. 7 Emmanuel College (Ga.), and No. 8 Wingate University. The Queens women, ranked No. 1 overall in the latest CSCAA / TYR Top 25, also finished first among 16 teams, including No. 6 Nova Southeastern, No. 7 Wingate, and No. 23 Saint Leo University.
Junior Hendrik Faber won the first individual event of the night, turning in a Division II ‘B’ standard time of 15:28.92 in the 1,650-Yard Freestyle. Sophomores Bobbi Gichard and Skyler Cook-Weeks each won their respective 200-Yard Backstroke events with ‘B’ cut times of their own.
Senior Polina Lapshina captured the Royals’ first meet record of the evening, reaching the wall in 48.80 in the 100-Freestyle. Sophomore Alex Kunert tallied the second meet record of the night for Queens, winning the 200-Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:43.47.
Sophomore Jan Delkeskamp was the top finisher in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a ‘B’ Standard time of 1:59.61 before the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay team of Allyson Accordino, Lapshina, Danielle Melilli, and Lexie Baker claimed Queens’ final win with a ‘B’ cut time of 3:21.01.
The Royals return to the pool in a few weeks as the swimmers will travel to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open.
