Swimming prelims begin at 11AM Eastern Time each day
Swimming finals begin at 7PM Eastern Time each day
Diving prelims are done in the afternoon, after the completion of the swimming preliminary rounds
Diving finals are done before each session-ending relay, with the 1-meter Thursday, the 3-meter Friday, and the platform Saturday

Day 1’s events:

• 200 free relay
• 500 free
• 200 IM
• 50 free
• 1-meter diving
• 400 medley relay

Scoring Preview

Thanks to Anthony Buhr and Price V. Fishback for providing some great data to preview the scoring.

Auburn and Michigan are both expected to have great days on the first day of this meet, with the Wolverines seeded for 166 swimming points and Auburn seeded for 112.

Cal, on the other hand, is only seeded at about 72. Like their women, the Golden Bears men aren’t expected to make their biggest dent in this meet on the first day. They’ll need to be within about 30 points of the Wolverines by the end of the day Saturday to have a chance at this meet.

The big “swing” race will be the 50 free. Michigan is seeded to put up 25 there, whereas Cal isn’t seeded to score anything. We know the Golden Bears should get at least a couple of finalists, but putting one in the A-Final tonight would be a huge boost to their scoring chances.

Stanford also needs to find a way to score some points on this first day; they’ve got big scoring potential in every race (Nolan in the IM, Wayne in the 50 free, Cosgarea in the 500 free) but will have to fill in the depth around them. Don’t forget that the Cardinal will also have 4 divers on the 1-meter, so if they get to 120-130 points on the first day, it wouldn’t be a big shock to anybody.

Ignoring team scoring, the race of the day is probably the 50 free. Vlad Morozov said on Twitter that he’s shaved for this meet, and he’ll show down with Brazilian Marcelo Cheirighini. Two of the country’s great sprinters, two of the country’s great sprint coaches, and two of the world’s proudest sprint countries.

Everyone comes out to play for Men’s NCAA’s. Michael Klueh, Matt Grevers, and Bob Bowman have all been spotted already, and there’s surely more who will join the crowd later. This meet is going to be intense!
