Quinn Schaedler Changes 2020 Commitment from Michigan to Virginia

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Austin, Texas freestyler Quinn Schaedler has verbally committed to the University of Virginia for 2020-21. She had originally announced her intention to swim for the University of Michigan last April. Schaedler ranked 8th in the high school class of 2020 in our first “Way Too Early” poll but dropped to Honorable Mention in the re-rank that came out in the spring.

I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Virginia!! this decision would not have been possible without the support from my family, friends, and coaches. i’m so excited to continue my athletic and academic career here! GO HOOS🧡

Schaedler is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She is currently unattached but has swum for Longhorn Aquatics, Austin Swim Club, Nitro Swimming, and Lake Shore Swim Club over the past 5 years. She specializes in 50/100/200 free. She swam all three events at Phillips 66 Nationals this summer (26.61/56.50/2:03.44) then repeated the 100 free the following week at Speedo Junior Nationals. There, she placed 7th with 56.74. At Winter Juniors West, she finaled in both the 100 (3rd with 49.49) and the 200 (3rd with 1:45.91). She also competed in the 50/500 free.

Best SCY times:

  • 50 free – 22.89
  • 100 free – 48.84
  • 200 free – 1:45.91

Schaedler’s best 50 free time would have been .02 short of earning a second swim at 2019 ACC Women’s Championships but her 200 free would have made the A final and her 100 free would have landed her solidly in the B final. If she gets back to that level she’ll be a huge addition to UVA’s relays. Schaedler will begin in the fall of 2020 with Abby Harter, Alex Walsh, Anna Keating, Emma Weyant, and Sophia Wilson.

All of this is noise. You’ll see what an addition she will be following the Olympic Trials which sadly this article failed to mention.

Schaedler has a 1.47 in the 200 free this season. That time alone puts her as one of the top swims in the NCAA.

Seriously. This is a major “late” pickup for UVA. They already have a loaded class with #2, #9, #11, #12 — to add in a swimmer who went 49.5 / 147.0 in an October meet a few weeks ago makes this class even better. Potential to be a big 400/800 relay contributor.

Sad that in a commitment announcement for a swimmer to another team, NC State fans still feel the need to bitterly howl at the moon. Low-class, but typical.

Gee, I thought that was the noise a State fan made when they went to work for someone in Chapel Hill.

Maybe you should howl on a commitment post that pertains to your school or swimmers. Just saying….my guess is that you never been a real athlete yourself.

It’s sad that no one can just be happy for a child athlete.

Never been homeschooled in high school! Apparently swim swam does not like accurate facts.

I’d ask if you want some vinegar to go with that salt, but looks like you’ve got plenty!

A cursory inspection of the UVA Swimming Instagram account shows a lot of inaccuracies like this one. Say you’re “Top 3”, even though you’re 4th, is just an example of the way they are bending the truth to create an illusion. Someday they’ll be a case study in media manipulation. #wahoowa #nobodyischeckingfacts #desorboeffect #truthiswhatwesayitis

I will let you to do the honor of continuing to go back. Seems to me this not an “inaccuracy”.

Maybe if you had actually applied some critical thinking skills and basic fact checking instead of just a “cursory inspection”, you could have reached this conclusion as well. KEKW

What other “inaccuracies” did you find?? You know, since you’ve already had one pointed out was in fact, correct.

Playing the devil’s advocate here, who cares as long as you get results? UVA Swim social media blatantly targets HS recruits with the so called hype and has shown to be zillions times more effective than the restrained old school style of Michigan, Stanford, Cali. Easily the numero uno womens recruiting class of 2019 and already leading the rest of the pack for 2020 and 2021. Hard to argue against that unless your priorities extend beyond just winning.

The swimmers I met on the recruiting trail with my kid were actually much less swayed or impressed by the hype and videos and social media posts than I expected. What impressed them was a positive and inclusive team culture where the swimmers also seemed to actually like the recruits as well as coaches who demonstrated commitment to building positive relationships with recruits and swimmers. Maybe swimmers are more ‘old school’ than other sports but it came down to the people more than the facilities or hype.
