RACE VIDEO: Destin Lasco Breaks NAG Record in 11-12 50 Back

Above, see 12-year old Destin Lasco of Pleasantville Aquatics swim a 24.56 in the 50 yard backstroke. Even in the sprintiest of the backstroke races, Lasco swims with the same relaxed control that we saw in his 100 (video here) and 200 (video here) earlier in the meet.

Many thanks to his coach Dimitar Petrov for sharing videos of these fantastic swims.

Destin should be admitted to Asian hall of fame together with nathan this week.

CoachErik, you are definitely lucky.
I could post this interview since last December but I didn’t because every time I tried to post here a video from swimming world, it has been quickly deleted. So I see that the rules have changed. I take note of that. 😉
Nice interview. Smart kid. Cute face. Great coaching. Amazing talent. Star in the making.

Wow! It’s still more impressive.
Hopefully he will be at least 6 feet tall in 3 or 4 years.

Destin has a great DPS…no doubt! I believe the strongest part of his swims stands in the great splits! Check out his splits…crazy!!!

24.3/25.0 in the 100 free?!?!?! Wow. If I were his coach I’d even encourage him to push the front half more. But still, that shows incredible control and endurance for a 12 year old kid.

This kid has incredible DPS and dolphin kick. In the 100 free he takes fewer strokes than a lot of successful male NCAA swimmers. If Dustin keeps or improves his DPS while boosting his turnover as he gets older and stronger, he’ll do great things!

Would love to see some underwater footage. He must pull a TON of it……crazy!! Also curious his training since all the talk about MA & USRPT.

You can tell this kid put the work in and listens to his coaches: During the race his mind “goes blank” and he just focuses on the basics: Keep it long, work the walls, keep your head down on freestyle, etc.

Paul…Destin and the rest of his teammates never train sets under 50s’. Even 50s are rear in his training. He swims 6 days a week and only trains backstroke on Tuesday. He is 12 and does average swim for 12 year old boy. One day for each stroke…one day IM…and one day longer swim. However, we swim 2 x 25 at the end of warm-up at meets 🙂 Our focus this season was 200IM and 400IM. He swam 4:15 unrest three weeks ago (I believe he can go 4:10)… but at the end of the day we were happy with 3 NAG Records in backstroke last weekend. We do not specially train underwater, starts and turns…we do it during practice… Read more »
