The Dutch women have long been a force in women’s sprinting, including through the super-suited era of the late 2000’s, making their National sprint records among the most sacred in the sport in the country.
On Sunday, despite being relatively-old for a swimmer to pop lifetime bests, 27-year old Femke Heemskerk swam a 52.69 in the women’s 100 meter freestyle at the Eindhoven Swim Cup.
The time jumped past Ranomi Kromowidjojo’s old record of 52.75 as the new National Record, and improved Heemskerk’s own personal best of 52.79 from Saturday’s semi-final round. Heemskerk now ranks as the 5th-fastest 100 long course meter freestyler in history.
