Race Video: Ledecky wins 200 Free, 2014 Arena Grand Prix at Mesa, 1:56.27

Women’s 200 Freestyle – Finals – Reported by SwimSwam

The defending Olympic Champion Allison Schmitt fought to the end with Katie Ledecky in the finals of the women’s 200 freestyle, but didn’t have enough in the end. Katie Ledecky posted a time of 1:56.27. Schmitt posted a great time as well with a 1:56.90. Katie Hoff has looked strong all weekend. She reached in to finish third with a 1:59.93. Cierra Runge was the final swimmer to dip under the 2 minute barrier, finishing in fourth place.

Haha! The men’s race looked pale in comparison.
Great field on the women’s side.
As expected a huge battle between Katie Ledecky and Allison Schmitt.
Katie is huge. Great last 50. New PB. Everything goes very well for her.
Allison is really back. 1.54 isn’t out of reach next summer.
Happy to see the other Katie under 2 minutes. Cool to see she wasn’t afraid to go with the 2 giants. Until the half-race she was in the conversation. She struggled a little bit to finish her race but with a few months more of training, her last 50 will be better.

With ledecky still going faster , with Missy and Allison back on shape , that 800 free relay for Usa is going to be very tough to beat this summer , next summer and by RIO . As U mentioned Bobo , only one seat is left on that relay …who ever will be on that roster will be happy ; Australia – Usa at Pan Pacs this summer will be great .
