(RACE VIDEO): Watch Katie Ledecky’s Twitter-Trending World Record in the 1500 Free

2022 FINA WORLD CUP – TORONTO

American Katie Ledecky broke the World Record in the 1500 free on Saturday evening in Toronto, knocking almost 10 seconds off the old standard in her first-ever entry in the event.

Much has been said about this race already (here), and much more will be said, but Ledecky has reinvigorated the sport after a bit of a slouch following a long, grueling stretch of competition-after-competition led to a late-summer swoon. Ledecky’s swim popped so much that, in spite of not being the Olympics or World Championships or even a National Championship, she popped up on Twitter’s trending topics on Saturday evening:

Below, watch Ledecky’s eye-popping swim, in its entirety, unclipped and without commercial interruption.

I think In 2024 she should do this lineup of events: 200, 400, 800, 1500, 4x100Fr, 4x200Fr and the 10K. I really think she can do it and medal in all of them with: B, S, G, G, B, S, G respectively.

There’s no chance she makes a 4×100 relay, and it will take 1:53 to medal in the 200. She hasn’t gone that time since 2016. 12 swims and 16.3K of racing at 27 years old is stupid.

Going forward, the competition needs to watch out for Yang Junxuan (20 years old) and Tang Muhan (19 years old) in the women’s 200 meter freestyle. The Chinese are always mysterious.

Nope!

In chronological order:

W 400 FR
W 1500 FR
W 4 x 200 FR-R
W 800 FR

As was the case at the 2022 FINA World Aquatics Championships. At the of 27, Katie Ledecky is no longer a spring chicken in the world of female distance swimming.

Well we just saw Katie swim a very respectable time in the 200 fifteen minutes after setting a world record in the 1500, no, not a teenager but her inner competitive fire is still burning hot. The commentators seemed a little surprised she didn’t scratch the 200 but she didn’t back off and had the fastest split on the second 100. Plus she is happy with her coach and training partners so guess we will have to wait and see.

Katie Ledecky does not swim open water nor has any desire to unlike Katie Grimes.

Katie Ledecky won’t qualify for the women’s 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay nor swam the women’s 100 meter freestyle at the 2022 USA Swimming International Team Trials.

She extremely dislikes open water swimming or dark water swimming as she calls it, so cross that off your list, along with the 100 FR relay. The others are possible but its all up to Katie.
