Radford and Webby Secure Spots for Olympic Qualifier in Portugal

Jarrod Poort and Kareena Lee were not the only two athletes to earn entry into the final Olympic qualifier in the 10 km at the Australian Open Water Championships on Saturday. Kane Radford and Charlotte Webby of New Zealand will also be heading to Setubal, Portugal to compete for the opportunity to swim the 10 km event in Rio.

For athletes from New Zealand to gain entry into the event they needed to finish in the top six of the Australasians at the competition in Mooloolaba. Radford finished ninth overall and fourth among Australasians while Webby finished eighth overall and fifth among Australasians.

Radford had an extremely strong swim finishing 19 seconds behind world champion Jordan Wilimovsky of the United States who won the event.

Penny Hayes just missed the opportunity to compete in Setubal finishing seventh among Australasians, only four seconds behind sixth place finisher Samantha Watts of Australia.

Radford and Webby both competed in the 10 km in Kazan finishing 30th and 45th respectively.
