Rapsys & Guy Battle To The Wall In Men’s 200 Free At Lausanne Cup

2019 SWIM CUP LAUSANNE

Day 2 Highlights

Day 2 of the 2019 Swim Cup Lausanne saw reigning European Short Course Championships gold medalist Danas Rapsys get to the wall first in the men’s 200m free event, although he had a fierce competitor at his side in Great Britain’s James Guy.

Stopping the clock in a time of 1:42.69, Rapsys got the advantage over 2015 World Champion Guy, who touched less than half a second later in 1:42.90. Rapsys won this event in Glasgow in an effort of 1:41.12 while Guy settled for 4th, but logged a new personal best there of 1:42.11.

This evening, Guy opened in a quick 50.83 to Rapsys’ 51.06, but the Lithuanian closed in 51.63 to Guy’s 52.01 to get the win.

For Guy, however, this 200m free silver is paired with his 200m fly gold from last night, with both swims coming very close to the times he put up in Glasgow. In fact, his 200m free tonight checks-in as the 4th fastest time of his career.

Canadian swimmer Mary-Sophie Harvey doubled up on golds this evening, winning the 100m back in a time of 57.91 as well as the 400m IM in 4:42.26.

Germany’s Philip Heintz also stepped on to the podium two times, first grabbing gold in the 100m fly in 51.54 followed by the 100m IM in 52.72. Heintz was the men’s 200m IM bronze medalist at this year’s European Short Course Championships.

The men’s 50m free saw Pieter Timmers touch first in 21.52, while Brazil’s 50m fly victor from last night, Nicholas Santos got it done for silver in 21.56.
