Rapsys, Teterevkova Knock Down Wins On Day 1 Of Lithuanian Championships

2022 LITHUANIAN WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2022 Lithuanian Winter Championships kicked off today in Alytus, with racers taking on the long course format.

Although Olympic champion Ruta Meilutyte is expected to race the 50m breast on day 2, today’s women’s 100m breaststroke race did see a solid outing by Kotryna Teterevkova.

Topping the field by over 6 seconds, 200m breast national record holder Teterevkova took this shorter race in a time of 1:06.25.

Splitting 31.17/35.08, Teterevkova busted out lifetime best and just her second outing ever under the 1:07 threshold. Entering this meet Teterevkova had been as fast as 1:06.82, a time she put up in Tokyo at the 2020 Olympic Games. She wound up 15th after the prelims, but ultimately placed 14th after a much slower semi-final time of 1:07.39.

Another Olympian was in the water in the form of Danas Rapsys, the 8th place finisher in the men’s 200m free in Tokyo. The 26-year-old ace pumped out a winning effort of 1:46.46 here at these championships, easily defeating the field by over 5 seconds.

Also making waves here on day 1 was Andrius Sidlauskas who claimed men’s 100m breast gold in 1:00.82 while Simonas Bilis clinched the men’s 50m fly top prize in a mark of 25.04.
