Ray Amato Named Luther College Assistant Coach

Renae Hartl, Luther College Athletics Director, has announced that Ray Amato has accepted the position of assistant swimming and diving coach. He will also serve as the assistant aquatics director.

Amato joins the Luther College staff from SUNY Cortland where he has been a graduate assistant swim coach the past two years. He began his coaching career at Misericordia University, Dallas, Pennsylvania (2013-14), and then was at Olivet College, Michigan (2014-15), before joining the SUNY Courtland staff.

During his athletic career, Amato swam for SUNY New Paltz, where he was a four-time SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships finalist in the 100 and 200 butterfly.

“We are thrilled to have Ray join our coaching staff and the Luther swimming and diving family,” stated head swimming and diving coach Nicole Kaupp. “He brings a great deal of experience and a very evident passion for coaching the sport of swimming. He understands what it takes to recruit high-quality student-athletes and has been incredibly successful in developing those athletes in the pool. We look forward to welcoming Ray to Decorah and Luther College.”

“I’m excited for this great new opportunity,” commented Amato. “When I visited Luther for my interview, I saw a family with a will to win both in athletics and in the classroom. I am excited to work with Coach Kaupp and the rest of the athletics staff to continue to build and elite program.”
